Market

We drove to the city of Madang to buy produce for the kitchen.  We were given 14 Kina (money)and a list of items and bought them.  In this culture you don’t barter for food.  Other items such as clothes or jewelry you can ask if they have a second price.  Woman have to be careful not to step over anything like food, children or anybody’s legs.  If this happens in the PNG culture the food would be considered unclean and thrown out.  They have a Best Buy in PNG but it is not anything like the one in the US.  People come to town to buy food items and tools.  We saw several men carrying their newly purchased bush knives.  Some of them up to 3 feet long.
