Thanksgiving in August

Today we had a combined church service out at a nearby village. Today marks the  anniversary of the fight that left four PNG people dead and 72 houses burned.  It is the 1 year anniversary of the day criminals came to our mission center to repent and bring gifts of food and money as well. We gathered to remember these things and celebrate all God has done since then.

This family was waiting to bring their offerings (food from their garden).  Even young children have their own knives.
Crossing the bridge from the mission center to the village: an adventure for some and pretty scary for others!
Daniel and Michael brave the bridge!
Hundreds of expats and nationals gathered together to worship. The service lasted 4 hours; our kids were amazingly patient!
Jessica watching people bringing their offerings.  The long poles are sugar cane.
A rainy sanctuary.
There were many speakers but the most memorable was a former thief who had broken into homes on our center.  He spoke of how he had repented and turned away from sin.
